Jerald Winter
After the unexpected death of my young daughter Karis, I discovered the comfort of photography while shooting images of the moon on sleepless nights. Finding, composing and developing images helps me see beauty, harmony, joy, and life. I hope my photography honors Karis and provides a source of inspiration, hope and beauty for others.
In my images, I try to capture a mood or essence such as quietness, mystery, exploration, mystery, majesty, action, power, humor and irony. I also want the viewer to feel like they are part of the scene or that they can walk into picture or touch the subject. A variety of subjects catch my attention, ranging from close ups of tiny droplets in spider webs to landscapes with lighthouses and lightning, from butterflies to fighter planes, and from quirky seagull tails to quiet foggy woods. It is all part of the fun of photography.
A portion of my prints are available for purchase at Design Archives Emporium, 636 W 4th St, Winston-Salem, NC 27101
I also sell prints at community festivals and juried art shows, and I hope you will stop by my tent/booth at an upcoming show near you. I also lead short courses on Healing through Photography for grief therapy groups.
I live in Winston-Salem, NC with my wife Monica, my youngest daughter Olivia, and our Green-cheek conure, Sochi Marochi.
In memory of Karis,
